A practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states in order to encounter and interact with the spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world. A commonly used word "shaman" as a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits, who typically enters into a trance state, and practices divination and healing.
The term "shamanism" and often referenced as "shamanic healing" was only first applied to the ancient religion of the Turks and Mongols, as well as those of the neighboring Tungusic and Samoyedic-speaking peoples. The word "shaman" originates from the Tungusic Evenki language of North Asia and was introduced to the west after Russian forces conquered the shamanistic Khanate of Kazan in 1552. Upon learning more about religious traditions across the world, western scholars have also described similar magico-religious practices found within the ethnic religions of other parts of Asia, Africa, Australasia and the Americas as "shamanism". Various historians have argued that shamanism also played a role in many of the pre-Christian religions of Europe, and that shamanic elements may have survived in popular culture right through to the Early modern period. Various archaeologists and historians of religion have also suggested that shamanism may have been a dominant pre-religious practice for humanity during the Paleolithic.
To avoid partaking in Cultural Appropriation this is my view on what people have referred to as Shamanic healing sessions and which I prefer to refer to as Nature Healing Sessions:
"I am of the belief that we are all indigenous in the way that we have the abilities to connect deeply with nature and the unseen world of spirit, because we are made literally of all the same elements found in the stars of the heavens and of the Earth that nourishes and provides everything for us, and that we are fully dependent on our Mother Earth for our well being and for life itself. That realization and recognition of where we come from and the important role of right relationship to her as well as the unseen world of spirit is imperative to our well being in every aspect of our own lives as well as the utmost importance to our extended family of the global community, in a world view of all beings and species and humans being only part of the whole ecosystem."
What to Expect in a or Nature Healing Session:
In a session typically we would meet and discuss what would be ailing or where you would most like clarity to come into wholeness in your life. From there we would establish what elements of nature would be most appropriate to work with which could include plants, water, the Earth/actual soil & ground, stones, animal spirits, guides, Air/ Breath, or Fire. People whom especially spend a predominant part of their lives indoors and not out in any natural environments where it is untouched by industry in some way often suffer on numerous levels and may not even notice or take the time to check in with the awareness of what is actually happening within them. If they are always on the move and feel that they are governed by time, and also have not opened to the ideas that we are talking about here, that this type of relationship could be responsible for not feeling at there best. The goal here is to allow yourself to experience something that may seem new or strange in the thinking mind but when actually experienced is a total heart rememberance of what is the truth of our existence and the sensory feeling and experience of that. People have been profoundly changed by spending time in the elements of nature away from technologies and responsibilities to just Be and commune in Peace and nourishing support.
These sessions take place at (in Charlemont, Ma this is not available in Greenfield office location because in Charlemont we are surrounded by the beauty and wildness in the purest form of connection where we can physically interact with the trees, plants, stream, mountains, and wildlife. For example taking a mini quest, or laying down on the ground and receiving healing, and guidance. This may include divination for further instructions on how to proceed as well as rituals to be performed there together to help reconnect and integrate the energies that are to assist in your well being and moving the energies that can help come into wholeness. Most importantly we are working together with spirit and nature in a safe, loving, guided experience. The practitioner is always very present with you even in their receiving guidance so that you feel safe, and held in confidence.
